  6. ProcessWatcher is intended to display the running processes on the Mac, local or remote machine, and optionnaly more information. System 7.0 or later is needed.

  8. It is freeware: you can distribute it but not alter it (although you can customize some resources for personal use only). If you give it away, please include the whole distribution files.

  10. Tested on PowerMac 7500 running System F1-7.5.5 and MacOS 8.1 (french).

  43.     - Support for remote connection between macs. ProcessWatcher must be running on both macs to establish a connection, and Program Linking must be activated on the remote machine (see File Sharing control panel). Then, the list of remote processes is updated every 2 seconds (no way to change that for the moment). If you open an info window for a remote process, the “Active time” and "FreeMemory" fields of this window is not updated.
  44.     - Process flags are now displayed in the same window as process info. Presentation can be switched with a flag. The preferences dialog asks for the default presentation.
  45.     - Some mis-spelt words have been corrected in balloons and elsewhere. Some other minor balloon corrections have been performed.
  46.     - Processes lists are now displayed in a different kind of window (see title bar). Source of the WDEF is available on request.
  47.     - The “launch date” field of the info windows now displays the real date and time.
  48.     - Added two menu items to launch processes, on the local machine and on remote ones. To launch a process on the remote mac, you only need ProcessWatcher to be running (that is, you can kill the Finder before). To launch a process on a remote machine, you must have the Finder running on the REMOTE mac, and select an application on a disk which is mounted on BOTH macs. If you have better ideas of how to do that, please tell me. Perhaps with next version of Finder?
  49.     - Preferences dialog was made movable, and list contents refreshed in background when prefered font is selected.
  50.     - Info windows are now opened below the list window.
  51.     - Use of temporary memory has been prefered over application memory.

  56.     Some nice features! The “Edit::Preferences” menu item: you can change the font & size (and even the bold style) used for the list, and make ProcessWatcher quit when the list is closed. Also now it is possible to open all info windows at once (menu “Process::Info for All”), and to option-click in the window close box to close all windows (if you option click in the close box of an info window, only info windows will close).

  60.     Here are some changes done from version 1.0b1:
  61.     - You can bring a process to the front by option- or command-clicking in the processes list, even if the window is not active (and even if ProcessWatcher is not the foreground application).
  62.     - Processes List window keeps the same place between two launches.
  63.     - Completely Help-Balloon-ised.
  64.     - Can now send Open AppleEvents.
  65.     - Removed many nasty bugs and improved memory management.
  66.     - It is no more CashWare (who would send the $1,000,000 that I was previously asking?).

  69. About AppleEvents

  71.     ProcessWatcher's commands “Process::Send Open AppleEvents” and “Process::Kill” (which is a ’quit’ AppleEvent) will in many cases work if the application does not handle High Level Events. The System transform these events into menu selection (“File::Open…” or “File::Quit”) as it did in the good old time of MultiFinder.

  73.     ProcessWatcher supports a few AppleEvents described in a separate text file. It does not contain any ’aete’ resource since I don't have enough documentation to include one. Sorry.
